Georgia DPH confirms 22nd measles case of 2026 in unvaccinated Macon County resident, links exposure to Pennsylvania outbreak

Georgia DPH confirmed its 22nd measles case of 2026, an unvaccinated Macon County resident exposed through contact with a case linked to a large Pennsylvania outbreak. The total compares with 10 cases in all of 2025.

Georgia’s Department of Public Health confirmed a 22nd measles case for 2026 in an unvaccinated Macon County resident, who has no known travel history but had contact with a confirmed case tied to an ongoing outbreak in Pennsylvania that has surpassed 1,100 cases. The individual is isolating at home and unvaccinated close contacts are quarantining while DPH works to identify other possible exposures. State epidemiologist Cherie Drenzek said one dose of the MMR vaccine provides about 93 percent protection against measles and two doses increase protection to about 97 percent.
