University of North Georgia breaks ground on $49.3 million STEM Excellence Center
The University of North Georgia broke ground on a new $49.3 million STEM Excellence Center on July 7, 2026. The facility is scheduled to open in spring 2028 and will become the new home of UNG's College of Science and Mathematics.
The 52,018-square-foot building will include five classrooms, 14 teaching and research laboratories, faculty offices, and flexible collaborative spaces. The project drew on $39.3 million in state funding secured by state Sen. Steve Gooch and state Rep. Will Wade, along with a $3 million gift from alumni Stewart Swanson and Carol Barnette Swanson.
